Delaney Cattle Summer Tour

Host Scott Beck visits Delaney Cattle in Valentine, Nebraska, for an on-location interview with Josh Delaney and his daughter Rietta. Recorded outdoors along the river on Labor Day weekend, the episode covers:

• The operation: Delaney Cattle is a cow-focused Angus breeding program built around three foundational cow families — the 801, the 1500 (a $2,750 dispersion purchase that became a cornerstone matron), and the 5016. Josh emphasizes breeding cows, not numbers, and has built a tight 30–36 day calving interval by strictly culling late breeders.
• Clipping & semen services: Beyond the breeding program, Josh runs Delaney Cattle Services — now in its 10th season, clipping roughly 9,000–10,000 head of bulls per winter with a 10-person crew. He also reps semen for ST Genetics and Alta Genetics, and sells private semen including the Highway 83 bull.
• First bull sale: Their inaugural production sale last February sold 12 bulls, averaging $12,250 with a $21,000 high seller, promoted entirely through Facebook and word-of-mouth with no paid advertising.
• Standout cattle: Scott highlights the 611 bull (an Eternity son) as one of the best calves he's seen all year, along with the 601 (by Highway 83 out of a Fair N Square cow) and the 616 ET calf.
• Rietta's role: Rietta's daily interaction with the cattle gives them their signature docile disposition — the bulls have been "Rietta-ed." She shares stories about her show cattle, her family's Louisiana fishing trips, and closes the episode by singing "Jolene" and the National Anthem.
